Student Welfare

Student welfare encompasses all aspects of care and support, safety and well-being of the student. Eastwest offers the following support services.

Care Groups

All students participate in staff led care groups which meet weekly. These groups are an opportunity for fellowship, encouragement and prayer for one another.

Devotions & Chapels

Eastwest College believes that a community of believers should also be a worshipping community and we have built this into the timetable with morning devotions and prayer chapels. These are led by staff and students in a variety of styles and emphases.

Forum

Once a term a forum is held for staff and students to share information and discuss issues that arise within the college life.

Student Council

The Student Council organise regular social events and may be approached by fellow students to raise issues with staff. They also may be called upon to support a student in any appeal or grievance process.

Counselling

Two members of staff (one male, one female) are available to offer counselling and this may be requested by any student.

Vocational Advisor

While all members of staff are available to support and encourage students in their career choices, a designated vocational advisor will take an individual interest in helping you identify where and how your God-given abilities and experience can be used. With the obvious emphasis on cross-cultural work, the college has developed a network of contacts across a diverse range of Christian agencies in New Zealand and overseas. One section of the Flight Plan has been introduced to guide students to make definite steps towards their future career choice.

International Students

Eastwest College is a foundation signatory to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. With so many of our students coming from overseas, we are committed to doing all we can to make this a positive and enriching experience.

Grievance Procedure

All students have the right of appeal if they feel that any decision made concerning them is unfair, or if they have any grievance to raise. This should be put in writing to the Principal. They can make an appeal or be heard about a grievance in the following order : 
• The Principal 
• The full staff meeting of the College 
• The Eastwest Advisory Council. 
Students may be supported by two members of the Student Council in any appeal or grievance process.
